The way an individual responds to medication varies from person to person Certain people are more prone to side effects Some people have no response to medications and they do not work for them at all Genes can have an impact on the way a person reacts to medications Pharmacogenomics is a field of medicine that combines pharmacology and genetics to optimize treatment and reduce side effects by personalizing medications to a person’s DNA In this presentation, I will explore the Pharmacogenomics market in Germany to determine what could be applied here in the US This research was carried out secondarily by looking at existing literature and research The study found that Pharmacogenomics was only used in critical situations due to cost and negative public opinion Pharmacogenomics however was more likely to be used in countries like Germany in which the cost of health care is more affordable This finding is significant because Pharmacogenomics can be incredibly useful in many contexts and should not be limited to those who and afford it or are in dire situations Making this practice widely usable will make healthcare more safe, timely, and cost-effective for both doctors and patients
