Author Biography

Jim began his professional career in 1991 as a correction officer at MCI Concord and became a Massachusetts State Police (MSP) trooper in 1993. Jim honorably retired with the rank of Detective Lieutenant in 2018 after 25 years of service. In 2010, Jim was assigned full-time to FBI Boston’s Organized Crime Squad as a task force officer until he assumed command of the MSP’s Anti-Terrorism Unit and remained at the FBI as a member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Duties included supervising covert field intelligence teams deployed during Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) events such as the Boston Marathon and Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on the Esplanade. Academic and professional awards bestowed upon Jim include UMass Lowell’s Outstanding Ph.D. Student and Amy Finn Human Spirit Award (2022), FBI Boston’s Award of Excellence for contributions to the Marathon bombing response and investigation (2013), and the DEA’s Enrique Camarena Award (2010).
