Information technology has grown to be a critical factor in the success of any type and size of business. It supports data processing, managers' decision making, and strategic operations of the business. The airline industry, among others, is known for its strategic use of information technology. The airline companies devoted their information technology efforts to creating and improving their computerized reservation systems (CRSs). This thesis examines the impact of CRSs on the airline industry: how the CRS-pioneering airlines gained strategic advantage over other airlines. It shows that information technology through CRSs has been a major success factor for airline companies.
