Today the site of Howell Park Apartments. Alonzo Clewis arrived in Tampa in 1888 to work for the Hillsboro Loan and Abstract Company. He later established the A.C. Clewis Fire Insurance Agency. He was the president of the First Savings and Trust Company from 1914 to 1944 when he died. Over his years he was involved with the Exchange National Bank, the Bank of West Tampa, Bank of Clearwater, and the Bank of Dunedin. The town of Clewiston, Florida, is named after him. Down the street from his Bayshore Gardens home is a short street named after him, S. Clewis Court.
