Note
The Tampa Bay Hotel was designed by architect J.A. Wood and opened on February 5, 1891 with 511 rooms as a resort-style hotel. The Tampa Bay Hotel closed its doors in 1930 and became part of the University of Tampa. In 1941, the city of Tampa signed a 99-year lease with the university for $1 a year. Some of the building is still used for University of Tampa employees and students, but the rest of the former hotel is now the Henry B. Plant Museum. Photo courtesy of Colette J. Hair
