Abstract

In this oral history interview, Florida native Gertrude McCullough Lee (1922 - 2000) discusses her public health nursing career in Holmes County, Florida. She describes the evolution of public health nursing in a rural community and her professional transition from military nurse to director of nursing services for Holmes County. She talks about the establishment of the Holmes County Health Department and the training of public health nurses. Lee details several public health issues in her community such as polio, tuberculosis, and hookworm infestation. She also recounts various interventions she implemented to address public health issues as well as her outreach efforts into the community.
