Abstract
This interactive session explores strategies that provide opportunities for pre-service teachers to think critically and creatively about the use oftechnology in the classroom.
Description
Integrating technology into the classroom is vital to the future of kids in a digital age, but many teachers lack the confidence to implement it in their classrooms. Studies show a teacher’s perception of how hard technology is to use determines his or her willingness to try it. Researchers recommend increasing exposure to new technologies for pre-service teachers to improve their comfort before going into the classroom. This interactive session explores the strategies used in an undergraduate educational technology course to provide pre-service teachers with opportunities to not only use technology but think more critically and creatively about how and when to deploy it. The session highlights the use of modeling through technology-driven course design and scaffolding that intentionally moves students from acquiring knowledge to designing creative experiences for P-12 students.Descriptions of created assignments and access to the course learning materials will be provided.
