Submission Guidelines & Policies

Contents

Who Can Submit?

While submissions are welcome from all, the journal particularly encourages contributions from advanced undergraduate students, graduate students, and junior researchers. Submissions from undergraduates must be completed under the supervision of a professional mathematician, from whom a cover letter will be requested. A professional mathematician is a current or former researcher with an advanced degree in mathematics or a closely related science who is an expert in the field of the work being published.

Authors considered for publication in AJGM must own the copyright to the work being submitted or be authorized by the copyright owner(s) to submit the article. Authors retain full copyright, and authors' rights are protected under an Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license.

Initial Submission Guidelines

For the initial submission, the manuscript must be uploaded as a single-column PDF file. A cover letter from a supervising faculty member is required for submissions by undergraduate authors. Submitted articles must contain the following components:

  • A concise and informative title that accurately reflects the manuscript's content.
  • Full names, email addresses, and affiliations for all authors, including the department(s) and institution(s) where the work was performed.
  • The active email address for the corresponding author.
  • A concise abstract (without references) summarizing the purpose, major findings, and conclusions of the research.
  • An informative introduction that provides context and background for the study.
  • A Use of AI Acknowledgement, if applicable, before the reference list. (Please see the Generative AI Policy.)
  • A reference list in alphabetical order at the end of the article.

Submitted manuscripts must be original contributions that have not been published previously and are not currently under review for publication in any other archival journal or book, in any format. Publication within a working-paper series is not considered prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to AJGM, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that it will not be submitted elsewhere until the completion of the editorial decision process.

Because this journal publishes electronically, page limits are less relevant than in traditional print publications. We therefore encourage authors to take advantage of this greater “bandwidth” to include material they might otherwise have to omit for space reasons in a print journal. That said, authors should still exercise discretion with respect to overall length and reader engagement.

Upon acceptance for publication, authors are required to use the amsart.cls (AMS article document class) template to produce the final version of their work, following the instructions in the Formatting Guidelines for Accepted Articles. Authors are encouraged to use the journal's formatting guidelines for accepted articles for their initial submission. Doing so will save time and expedite the publication process in the event of acceptance.

After publication, authors have the right to post pre-print or post-print versions of their article online, including on their personal, departmental, or institutional repository pages.

If you have questions about submissions to AJGM, please contact the editors.

I warrant that I have the copyright to make this grant to the USF Tampa Library and the journal publisher unencumbered and complete. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources.

Following publication, the author’s rights will be protected under an Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license.

Generative AI Policy

Authors must disclose the use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) or AI-assisted tools in scientific writing. This technology should be used only for improving language and readability, not for generating core research content, conclusions, or insights. Authors are fully responsible for all published content, including verifying and editing any AI-generated text for accuracy, completeness, and impartiality. For full transparency, a new "Use of AI Acknowledgement" section should be added before the references. This section must include a statement in the following format: "The author(s) acknowledge the use of [insert AI tool name] for [state reason]. All AI-generated material was subsequently reviewed and revised by the author(s), who take full responsibility for the published work."

The declaration does not apply to basic tools used to check grammar, spelling, and references. No statement or acknowledgement is necessary if there is nothing to disclose.

Formatting Guidelines for Accepted Articles

For accepted manuscripts and final submissions, AJGM requires authors to use the journal.tex template, which can be downloaded directly from the American Mathematical Society (AMS) website. The journal.tex file uses the amsart.cls class, which is included in most standard LaTeX distributions such as TeX Live, MiKTeX, and MacTeX. This class is part of the AMS-LaTeX bundle, which provides document classes for articles, books, and proceedings published by the AMS. If you do not have access through your editor, you may download the entire .zip package directly from the AMS website. The amsart.cls package is also available on Overleaf.

The journal.tex file is the required template for your final submission, even if other formats were used for your initial submission. Do not modify the file’s structure or formatting. You may rename the file to match your manuscript—for example, twinprime2025.tex if your paper concerns the twin prime conjecture.

The journal.tex template serves as a guideline for formatting your manuscript, including the title, authors’ names and affiliations, abstract, section organizations, mathematical environments, figures, tables, and references. If you have not previously used LaTeX, please consult the Authors’ Handbook for Journals (Authors_Handbook_Journals.pdf) available from the AMS website or other print or online sources.

Final submissions should be provided as a .zip file containing the main .tex file, the .bib file, and all figures, images, and other materials required to compile the paper. A compiled PDF version must also be submitted for reference by the editors.

Please contact the editors if you have any additional questions.
