Abstract
The Blue-winged Warbler is a boreal migratory bird with hypothetical status in Venezuela due to the absence of evidence associated with its historical documented records. In order to confirm the presence of the species in the country, physical evidence is presented in this paper. On October 13, 2000, a female individual was mist-netted during the annual bird migratory campaign carried out in Portachuelo Pass, Henri Pittier National Park, Aragua state, northern Venezuela. Once identified, the individual was collected and deposited in Phelps Ornithological Collection (COP), Caracas. This datum definitively confirms the presence of Vermivora cyanoptera in Venezuela, and changes its current status from hypothetical to vagrant visitor owing to its few records in the country.
