Abstract
The Paint-billed Crake Mustelirallus erythrops is a small rail with a wide distribution in South America, including Venezuela. Records of this species are uncommon because it is often hidden among aquatic vegetation. I unexpectedly found a dead individual when I was walking around an important urban route of Caracas on June 24, 2022. The individual was laying on a sidewalk without signs of external traumatism, wounds or predation. It may have been hit by a motor vehicle. The objective of this note is to report this observation due to its importance to the knowledge of the distribution and movement of this elusive species.
