Abstract

In order to contribute to the knowledge of the distribution of the Greater Ani Crotophaga major in Venezuela, we report the first records of the species within an altitudinal range of 1,540–2,680 m asl. Between December 2014 and May 2021, 11 individuals were sighted in seven different occasions through the main urban park of Mérida city and its surrounding areas, mainly associated to grasslands close to residential areas, and montane forest borders in the periphery. These observations represent the highest records for Venezuela and they could reflect an extension of distribution due to land transformation or migratory movements.
