Philosophy of the Peace and Conflict Management Review (PCMR)

To share experience and action-research findings in the fields of peace, conflict, security, genocide studies and prevention, socioeconomic and political development, and governance from the heart of Africa to the world.

Who Can Submit?

Anyone interested in peace, conflict, security, genocide studies and prevention, socioeconomic and political development, and governance is invited to submit articles to be published in Peace and Conflict Management Review. Center for Conflict Management (CCM) researchers and other stakeholders associated with CCM activities are especially encouraged to contribute.

General Submission Rules

Submitted articles cannot have been previously published, nor be forthcoming in an archival journal or book (print or electronic). Please note: "publication" in a working-paper series does not constitute prior publication. In addition, by submitting material to Peace and Conflict Management Review, the author is stipulating that the material is not currently under review at another journal (electronic or print) and that he or she will not submit the material to another journal (electronic or print) until the completion of the editorial decision process at Peace and Conflict Management Review. Responsibilities and Rights

Author's Responsibilities

  • The author accepts responsibility for costs of preparing manuscript.
  • The author should be as accurate as possible when sharing life experiences in peace building. Articles should be based on observable practices.
  • The author bears responsibility of the content of his/her article.

Copyright

As further described in our submission agreement (the Submission Agreement), in consideration for publication of the article, the authors assign to Peace and Conflict Management Review all copyright in the article, subject to the expansive personal--use exceptions described below.

Personal-Use Exceptions for Authors

The following uses are always permitted to the author(s) and do not require further permission from Peace and Conflict Management Review provided the author does not alter the format or content of the articles, including the copyright notification:

  • Storage and back-up of the article on the author's computer(s) and digital media (e.g., diskettes, back-up servers, Zip disks, etc.), provided that the article stored on these computers and media is not readily accessible by persons other than the author(s);
  • Posting of the article on the author(s) personal website, provided that the website is non- commercial;
  • Posting of the article on the Internet as part of a non-commercial open access institutional repository or other non-commercial open access publication site affiliated with the author(s)'s place of employment (e.g., a Phrenology professor at the University of Southern North Dakota can have her article appear in the University of Southern North Dakota's Department of Phrenology online publication series); and
  • Posting of the article on a non-commercial course website for a course being taught by the author at the university or college employing the author.

General Terms and Conditions of Use

Users of the Peace and Conflict Management Review website and/or software agree not to misuse the Peace and Conflict Management Review service or software in any way.

The failure of Peace and Conflict Management Review to exercise or enforce any right or provision in the policies or the Submission Agreement does not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any term of the Submission Agreement or these policies is found to be invalid, the parties nevertheless agree that the court should endeavor to give effect to the parties' intentions as reflected in the provision, and the other provisions of the Submission Agreement and these policies remain in full force and effect. These policies and the Submission Agreement constitute the entire agreement between Peace and Conflict Management Review and the Author(s) regarding submission of the Article.

Open Access Policy for Users

Peace and Conflict Management Review is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. Nonetheless, reproduction, posting, transmission or other distribution or use of the article or any material therein requires credit to Peace and Conflict Management Review as copyright holder (e.g., Peace and Conflict Management Review © 2012). This open access policy is in accordance with the Budapest Open Access Initiative's (BOAI) definition of open access.

Submission Guidelines

Language

Articles should be submitted in one of the three official languages (English, French, Kinyarwanda) in Times New Roman font with footnoted references.

Online Submission

New Account Registration

To register a brand new account, click the "Submit" in the sidebar. Then click on "Create Free Account" and enter your first and last name, email address, and preferred password. You should receive immediately a confirmation email at the address you provided (you may need to check your Junk mail); click in the link in the email and proceed with your submission if ready. If you attempt to create an account at an address already in the system, you will be sent your password as a reminder. If you require assistance, please contact the editors.

How to Submit Your Paper

Please make sure you have read through these instructions carefully before beginning the submission process. To contact the Journal Staff regarding a submission that is already in progress, simply click the "My Account" link at the top of the page, then the title of your submission, and then on "Email editor." If you need to contact staff prior to submitting a manuscript, please contact the editors.

Manuscript Style

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts conform to the journal style.

  • Abstract. Manuscripts should include an abstract of no more than 200 words. There is a text area for you to copy-and-paste your abstract directly through the online submission process.
  • Author Biography. Manuscripts should include a brief author biography.
  • Keywords. Manuscripts should include four to six keywords that characterize the topic. Keywords should be entered where indicated through the online submission process.
  • Citations. Peace and Conflict Management Review uses a footnote-based referencing style based on The Chicago Manual Style Guide. Proper footnote formatting is imperative.
  • Length. Articles published by Peace and Conflict Management Review are typically about 5,000 words in length. Occasionally, the Journal will consider publication of shorter or longer articles on a case- by-case basis. Authors should note the reason for substantially longer or shorter (1,000 words or more) articles at the time of submission and may do so by contacting the editors.
  • Original Work. All submissions must be original and not draw substantially from previously published work.

Formatting Requirements

Although bepress can provide limited technical support, it is ultimately the responsibility of the author to work with the Editors of Peace and Conflict Management Review to produce an electronic version of the final article as a high-quality PDF (Adobe's Portable Document Format) file.

It is understood that the current state of technology of Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF) is such that there are no, and can be no, guarantees that documents in PDF will work perfectly with all possible hardware and software configurations that readers may have.

  • Manuscripts should be prepared and submitted in Microsoft WORD (.doc or .docx ) format. They should not be submitted in PDF format.
  • Manuscripts should be single spaced and left-justified, so that the right margin is ragged.
  • A single line space should be inserted between each new paragraph. New paragraphs should be left- justified, not indented or tabbed.
  • Font:
    • Main Body - 12 pt. Times New Roman
    • Headers - 12 pt. Times New Roman
    • Footnotes - 10 pt. Times New Roman
  • Margins: Manuscripts should have a one-inch (1”) margin on all four sides of the page.
  • All headings should be in bold. All sub-headings should be in italics.
  • All abbreviations/acronyms should be defined at their first use.
  • Foreign words and phrases should be italicized in each instance.
  • Long quotations (more than three lines) should be set off from the surrounding text by additional space above and below.
  • Page numbers, headers, or footers should not be included in the manuscript and will be added by the editors.
  • Manuscripts should be carefully proofread to ensure that they contain no typographical, spelling or grammatical errors.
  • Images, figures, and tables:
    • To the extent possible, images and figures should appear in the document where they are referenced in the text.
    • All images must be included with your submission and saved as high-resolution .jpg or .gif files. High resolution means at least 300 dots per inch (DPI) and at least 800x800 pixels in size. Images created in Word are not of sufficient quality and will not be accepted.
    • Images and figures should be submitted along with the manuscript where indicated in the online submission process.
    • To the extent possible, tables should appear in the document where they are referenced in the text. Placeholders for figures and images should be noted by the author (i.e. “Figure 1 about here.”) Large tables should be put on pages by themselves. Tables should use 12 pt. font, avoiding use of special characters, symbols, and colors where possible. In no case should tables be in a separate document or file.
