Harlequin Duek near Los, Angeles, California.--The Harlequin Duck ,‘listrionicus histrionicus) has not previously been reported south of Santa Barbara, California. On December 22, 1946, Mrs. Kent and I identified a female Harlequin Duck in the Playa de1 Key area south of Santa Monica, Los Angeles County. We studied it at close range with binoculars as it repeatedly dived to feed, usually swimming a considerable distance under water.-W. A. KENT, Los Angeles, California, January 7,1947.
