Abstract

Currie J. Hutchinson wanted something in the Second Empire Style. In the Hutchinson house, built in 1908, architect Francis Kennard gave Tampa its only Mansard roof. Perhaps it was all at Kenard's suggestion. The house has been beautifully restored. The main entrance is accentuated by a doubling of the porch columns (one behind the other) and a hipped roof, in and above which is a balcony with wide eaves which align with the entrance cornice. An octagonal tower turns the northwest corner. The chimneys exhibit fine brickwork still in perfect condition. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is a view of the dormer and chimney.
