Abstract

Lee Stevens of the International Independent Showmen's Association discusses his career with the circus, beginning with an account of joining the circus when he was fifteen. He describes the teachings of clown college, the philosophies and culture of circus troupes, his tours with various circuses, and specifics of his clown acts and work as a circus animal trainer. He also discusses his courtship and relationship with his circus performer wife, Judy.
