Note
This is a marble herm of the goddess Athena. It is a classical sculpture, a 1st century BCE Roman Copy crafted after a 5th century BCE Greek bronze original from the School of Phidias. It was discovered during the 18th century excavations of the Villa of the Papyri in Herculaneum, Italy. The goddess is depicted looking down slightly. She is adorned in an Attic helmet with a stylized emblem on the front. She has long ringlets of hair that frame both sides of her face. This statue is currently located in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy.
