Notes

Text in Latin. Original image found in: Sacred leaves beyond the quill ... printed books, 1450 - 1500. Printed by Gunther Zainer, Augsburg, Germany. Text identification:The speculum humanae salvationis exemplifies medieval religious phiosophies by exploring typological foreshadowing in the Old Testament of biblical events that occur in the New. The lesson presented on the verso side comes from the apocryphal book of Judith and involves the persecution of Prince Alchior. The Prince professed the miraculous powers of the Israelite's God to Holofernes who, maintaining that King Nebuchadnezzar was the god of the earth, had him taken prisoner and tied to a tree. Items in this collection are only available online; we do not have physical copies of these items in the USF Library's Special Collections. The original items were returned to the donor.
