a must-read for anyone who works with children and adolescents in the research or clinical setting. The book may be of particular relevance to developmental psychologists who have yearned for developmentally informed work in the area of families. In part, this book attempts to spur researchers to make their work more relevant to families in the "real" world. Further, the majority of authors make explicit that family research (as well as most research) can search be value laden and political. Although the book provides relevant information for therapeutic interventions, it could have been strengthened by more of a focus on prevention of difficulties within families. However, this book is also likely to be thought provoking on a personal level. Overall, this book is clearly worth the read. On a number of occasions, this edited volume provides a good synthesis of the literature and of the book itself.
