The Florida Mental Health Institute is conducting an ongoing formative evaluation of financing strategies and systems changes mandated by s. 394.9082, F.S. for Florida’s public mental health and substance abuse system. Two demonstration sites, Department of Children and Families (DCF) District 1 (Panhandle area) and District 8 (Southwest Florida) were selected to test new models for managing, integrating, and delivering behavioral health services. This status report briefly describes the Florida residents being served by this legislation, summarizes the activities that have occurred during the past 12 months, describes the progress achieved, and delineates problems and obstacles that may inhibit future progress in response to the legislation.
