Founded in 1983, the Learning Gate Community School is a Hillsborough County charter K-8 institution dedicated to environmental education. The school integrates sustainability into its curriculum through hands-on programs such as an organic garden and a bird banding initiative, fostering experiential learning among students. Additionally, it serves as the host of the annual EcoFest, a community-wide event promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices. By bridging classroom instruction with real-world ecological initiatives, this oral history describes how the school plays a role in advancing environmental stewardship and education within the Tampa Bay community.
