Abstract

For the first time since 1965, Congolese have elected their representatives and leaders in 2006 and 2007. Beside the fact that the election has punished President the RCD (former rebel movement) in eastern and President Kabila in western parts of the country, the results of the election has increased the identity based tensions within the northern Province of Kivu, already being devastated by poorness of ifs population, by crimes of former Rwandan soldiers, lnterahamwe Militias, DRC soldiers and rebels of Laurent Nkunda. The election has also facilitated the Nande and Hutu tributes to negotiate their own interests regardless to those of the other groups. The victory of President Kabila to that election is evidently becoming more and more an illusion in the northern Kivu province.
