Abstract

Black skimmers (Rynchops niger) at Lake Eola Park during the day. Note with the photograph reads, "This and the following two sheets of pictures of Black Skimmers and Ring-billed Gulls were taken February 3, 1958, on lake Eola at Eola Park, Orlando, Florida, by Donald J. Nicholson. The first date—January 9th, 1958—which I saw skimmers in daytime for the first time in my life, there were 13 Skimmers counted, but by the last week in January I counted 42 Skimmers on this Lake at one time. They had gradually increased since the 9th. These photographs were taken with Tri *X film (Base 200). Bright sunlight in afternoon. Exposures taken: F.22 or F.32 at 200th; second. Meter readings for such small opening read .50th and 25th sec. These readings far too low for sharp pictures. Two low temperatures readings of early January and early February both below 32 degrees, have apparently influenced these seabirds to come inland."
