Abstract
Dan Fernandez, Sr., discusses his family's business, Naviera Coffee Mills. The interview begins with a brief history of the business, which was started in 1921 by Mr. Fernandez's grandfather and great-uncle. Mr. Fernandez describes the role of coffee and cafés in Ybor City. There is a lengthy discussion of how Naviera selects and roasts its coffee beans, and how roasting and brewing lead to different types of coffee. The interview continues by returning to Naviera's history and early business practices, touching upon other coffee corporations such as Starbucks. A discussion of the Columbia and its relationship with Naviera Coffee Mills concludes the interview.
