Abstract
The article explains that radio broadcasts of U.S. baseball in the nineteen thirties were historical reenactments that involved the telegraph operator, radio station engineers, and broadcasters. Sound effects and imaginative language were used to create the impression among radio listeners that the broadcasters were actually on the field witnessing the play-by-play action.
